The Alaska Food Bank got her through hard times, so now Toi Robinson volunteers there 3 days a week.
When Toi Robinson and her husband adopted their son, times were tough. Her husband worked multiple jobs while she watched their baby supplies dwindle. She found out about the Food Bank of Alaska and was able to get everything her child needed to get by. Robinson volunteers at the Food Bank three days a week, because they were there when she needed them–now she can be there for someone else.

People say, when did you know you were poor?
I never knew I was poor because I always had, you know what everybody else around me had, you know the basics.
If we had it, our neighbor had it.
If our neighbor had it, we had it.
And that's just how it was.
My name is Toi Robinson, and I live here in Anchorage.
I'm a proud volunteer at the Food Bank of Alaska.
We adopted my son and stopped working, and I stayed home to bond with him and to raise him.
And so my husband was the only breadwinner in the house, and he had two part time jobs and one full time job.
that's where I first learned the Food Bank of Alaska.
We had two diapers left, a micro milliliter of formula or ointment, a knock on the door, and it'd be Food Bank of Alaska.
I'm 74 now, my son is 36, and I'm finally, I finally feel like I'm giving back to food Bank of Alaska.
I volunteer here three days a week, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and that's just not enough as far as I'm concerned.
I wish I could do it eight days a week because they've given so much to me.
I'd like to return the favor.
It makes you feel good because I know how I feel.
I'm just thinking to myself, somebody, someone, somewhere doesn't know where their next this is coming from.
And and it's going to be there.
Yeah, Im doing the romaine.
There's an old song you sing, a church.
When he calls me, I will answer.
I'll be somewhere working for my lord.
I want to be somewhere working.
