How do magnets create a force?

Science Trek is a place where parents, kids, and educators can watch short, educational videos on a variety of science topics. Every Monday Science Trek releases a new video that introduces children to math, science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) career potentials in a fun, informative way.[MUSIC] JOAN CARTAN-HANSEN, HOST: Force is a fancy word for a push or a pull.
And motion is the changing of a position or location.
Some forces require contact.
Others, called natural forces, act at a distance.
Magnetic force or magnetism is a natural force, and it starts with atoms.
Atoms are extremely small bits of matter that make up everything in the universe.
They have nucleus with positively charged protons.
Circling around the nucleus are negatively charged electrons.
When they spin around, electrons create tiny magnetic fields.
In certain metals, like iron or nickel, all those tiny magnetic fields line up to create a bigger field.
And that metal becomes a magnet.
Magnets have a north pole and a south pole.
Like ends repeal each other and opposite ends attract.
Even the earth itself is a big magnet with a magnetic field that protects the planet from solar winds and harmful ultraviolet radiation.
Magnetic forces help our world click.
