Acids are part of lots of chemical reactions.
All chemicals have different properties, one of them is whether it is acidic or basic. Acids are part of lots of important chemical reactions, everything from launching a rocket to digesting food. Find out more about acids.

Science Trek
Science Trek is a place where parents, kids, and educators can watch short, educational videos on a variety of science topics. Every Monday Science Trek releases a new video that introduces children to math, science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) career potentials in a fun, informative way.(SCIENCE TREK MUSIC) JOAN CARTAN-HANSEN, HOST: All chemicals have different properties or characteristics.
Things scientists can use to study that chemical.
One is whether substance is an acid or a base.
We can tell by using a pH indicator.
PH tells you how strong or weak an acid or base is.
Acids are used in lots of ways.
Nitric acid is used in rocket fuels and explosives.
Sulfuric acid is very strong and can dissolve many types of materials.
It can be found in batteries.
Citric acid is found in fruits like lemons, oranges, and grapefruits.
Lactic acid is found in sour milk products like yogurt.
Other acids can be found in the body.
Hydrochloric acid is part of the gastric acids secreted in your stomach.
These acids help digest food.
Fatty acids work with our cells to make energy.
They are an important source of fuel for our bodies.
And maybe the most important acids in our bodies are nucleic acids such as DNA and RNA.
These molecules contain the genetic code of living things.
